Testicular Biopsy

Testicular Biopsy

Testicular biopsy is a minor surgical procedure used to retrieve sperm directly from the testicular tissue to evaluate sperm production and quality.

This procedure is often performed when sperm are not present in the semen (a condition known as azoospermia).

Purpose

Testicular biopsy helps doctors determine whether sperm production is occurring within the testes. This procedure may also allow sperm retrieval for use in assisted reproductive treatment such as ICSI.

Procedure

A small tissue sample is taken from the testicle under local anesthesia. The sample is examined under a microscope to detect the presence of sperm.

Benefits

  • Helps to diagnose causes of male infertility
  • Allows sperm retrieval for fertility treatments
  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Short recovery time
